Larence Shustak, a New York photographer who moved to Christchurch in 1973, is most well known for his portraits of jazz and blues greats such as Thelonious Monk and John Lee Hooker. He also photographed the street, both in New Zealand and in the USA, recording the extraordinary in the seemingly uneventful matters of everyday life.
Shustak was an anti-establishment art provocateur – Larence Shustak: air gun? provides a fascinating insight into his photography with key examples from both his time in the USA and New Zealand.
