This book recognises the remarkable documentary photography of Donald J. McKay. In 1950 he started out as a professional photographer based at the family farm in Le Bons Bay; he was 16 years old. Staying put for the following decade he developed his photographic career, supplementing his income through farm work. On numerous occasions the photography and farming combined. The result is a collection of photographs with and autobiographical quality, forming a unique record of life and work of his Banks Peninsula community in the 1950s - A Rural Life in Black and White.
